As far back as 2nd grade, the first thing when meeting someone was to thumb through their record collection to see if the new friendship was gonna work out. My ultra-cool sister was eight years older than me, and starting in 1964 started turning me onto British Invasion bands like Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Dave Clark 5, and of course The Beatles. I especially liked all the girl singers (Petula Clark, Sandie Shaw) and the dreamy reverb in all the recordings. When I was old enough to look for myself, life revolved around cut-out bins and hunting down the most obscure bands I could.
Once I found the bargains at thrift stores, I started noticing all the camp covers from the 50's. A lot of generic big band stuff, usually with some 50's pin-up babe on the cover to sell it. The first time I brought one home I felt a twinge of guilt over it, like this wasn't the point of my record hunting and would cheapen my collection of real music. Then I started running into more and more record geeks who collected only covers, finally visiting Lovell's in uptown Whittier who had the place decorated to the rafters in camp sleeves. I was sold and my guilt disappeared. Being a serious collector and a geek who loves 50's girl covers can go hand in hand, especially if you have a den to decorate. Enjoy!!
P.S... Here's an interview with Emphera.com and myself regarding my Cheesecake record collection!

My 1st cover, courtesy of CHOC Thrift in Santa Fe Springs. You can see why I started collecting these :-)

Perhaps the greatest cover of all time..!
Yup, that's a young Mary Tyler Moore. I have about five she did. What a hottie!
