Music (and other) Useless Trivia
I know more of this stuff than stuff that'll actually make me money. Arrgh!

There's an inside joke between brothers Rex and Michael Lee Smith on the first Starz LP and Rex Smith's bubblegum LP 'Sooner or Later'. The Starz were an underrated KISS styled rock group, and their inner sleeve has a close-up of a groupie from her nose to her (huge) tits in a leather jacket and a Starz necklace. On Rex's LP they used the identical angle, except his girl is thirteen, the picture of innocence, in a white t-shirt with a Rex Smith necklace. The girl is Denise Miller from his TV movie, 'Sooner or Later', a gem where she sees Rex play in the parking lot of the local grocery store and pretends to be seventeen instead of thirteen. One of the great movies of our time.

John Denver was asked to join Crosby, Stills and Nash before they both took off. He noted David Crosby was the biggest asshole he'd ever met and passed.

Super Freak vs. Super Folk: Neil Young and Rick James had a college band in Canada called the Mynah Birds before Rick got all jiggy with it.

The greatest Joe Perry solo ever isn't Joe Perry. The solo on 'Train Kept A' Rollin' from Get Your Wings is actually the great Dick Wagner, who the producer called because Joe couldn't nail it. Wagner was on all the great Alice Cooper discs with Steve Hunter (Hunter, who used to stand behind Glen Buxton's amps and play his parts for him...)

A singer named Vince Taylor (real name Brian Holden) was Ziggy Stardust. Vince was a leather clad 50's rockabilly act (Germany via the U.S.) who David Bowie met in the 60's after he'd taken too much acid and lost his head. He tried to convince Bowie he was Jesus and he'd started his own religion. Bowie took the experience and based Ziggy on him.

The sloppy one note solo on 'It's Not Unusual" by Tom Jones? Jimmy Page. He was on everything back then as a session guy. All the psych stuff on Donovan's records was him too.

There's a pic I hope to find and post here of Patti Smith having a run-in with Ted Nugent. Ted was leaving a radio station after an interview as Patti arrived, and she went off on him since she viewed herself as the superior being. In the pic, Ted's leaning against a wall wearing Beatle boots, relaxed and laughing as she's pointing at him, venom spewing from her face as she's surrounded by her bodyguards. The payoff is when she was done with her interview and got back to her limo, it was plastered from one end to another with "Double Live Gonzo!" bumper stickers. Don't mess with old Ted!

The "SG" for the Gibson SG means "Standard Guitar." Seriously.

The first choice to replace David Lee Roth when he left Van Halen? Patty Smyth of Scandal. Eddie called her first and she turned him down. Personally I think she would have been great since she's got the pipes, but that's just me...
